ANEL 1: A view of a large mansion from the outside. It's late at night and the sky is a dark purple. Multiple of the windows in this mansion are shattered. Someone is standing outside of it. NATHAN, offscreen: Besides...What's the worst that could happen to someone who's already dead, right? PANEL 2: We see this stranger upclose. They're staring up at the mansion with half-lidded eyes, wearing a mask that covers the bottom half of their face. They have pale skin, a rather chubby build, and black greying hair styled in a mullet. Their eyes are dark blue and there's a scar over their left eye. They also have multiple piercings in their ears. They wear a blue hoodie and a white shirt NATHAN, offscreen: This'll be over with in no time.
ANEL 1: Nathan turns away from Lizzie, hugging himself and looking uncomfortable. LIZZIE: I understand your brother's passing was...difficult for you, sir, but please. Just this once. All I ask is you pay them a visit. I just...want to know if my family is safe, even if they're gone now. PANEL 2: You understand, don't you? PANEL 3: Nathan looks unsure, the colors gradually shifting to purple hues. PANEL 4: Nathan clenches his eyes closed, the colors now monochromatic purple. PANEL 5: The color scheme abruptly shifts back to full color, with Nathan offering his hand to Lizzie. NATHAN: Fine, I'll head down there tomorrow night to take a look, but that's all I'm doing. PANEL 6: Lizzie shakes Nathan's hand, smiling gratefully. Nathan rubs the back of his neck nervously. LIZZIE: Oh, I can't thank you enough, sir! I swear it'll be nothing more than a check up. NATHAN: Yeah, yeah. After this I'm going right back into retirement, though. So don't get any other ideas.
PANEL 1: Nathan looks like he's nervously anticipating something. NATHAN: So what're you asking me? PANEL 2: Lizzie has a pleading expression. LIZZIE: You're the only one I know who can see the dead! I need you to check in on them! PANEL 3: Nathan looks shocked. NATHAN: I... PANEL 4: Nathan grits his teeth, tensing up. NATHAN: I haven't worked a case in five years, Liz. I don't know if I can help you. PANEL 5: Lizzie looks surprised by this answer. PANEL 6: She looks off to the side, now looking sympathetic. PANEL 7: She puts her hands together. LIZZIE: Mr.Vargas...
PANEL 1: Nathan follows Lizzie into the kitchen, leaving Joey in the living room. Lizzie looks over her shoulder, putting a hand to her heart. LIZZIE: I do apologize for storming in at this time of night, Mr.Vargas. Nathan crosses his arms. NATHAN: I'd be less bothered by it if you explained what this emergency is. PANEL 2: Lizzie looks distressed. LIZZIE: It's the manor! PANEL 3: Nathan looks confused as Lizzie speaks. LIZZIE: The front windows have been smashed! NATHAN: That...tends to happen when a place is haunted, yes. PANEL 4: Lizzie, surrounded by darkness, looks at the floor. LIZZIE: You don't understand, this isn't my siblings getting into afterwordly mischief. Usually they leave notes apologizing for the mess, but this place was in shambles! No notes, no chill in the room, nothing! No sign of them anywhere!
PANEL 1: Lizzie looks down at her hands, uneasy. She's surrounded by four different specters, all with their own colors. On the bottom left is a blue ghost with curly hair, it looks as though their arm has been chopped off. On the upper left is a red ghost who's head is separate from his body. On the upper right is a purple ghost with a gash in her neck. On the bottom right is a green ghost who looks to be missing an arm as well. No further details can be discerned about these figures. NATHAN, offscreen: Whole family was murdered and started haunting the mansion, Liz was the only one who survived. That's when she came to us, asked us to figure out who did this to her folks. PANEL 2: Joey stares after Lizzie, interested. Nathan however looks uncertain. NATHAN: Turns out none of 'em wanted to move on yet and just wanted to stay in their old family home. JOEY: Huh. NATHAN: Yeah. She let the ghosts have the estate, too. Stops by as often as she can, paying her respects, you know the deal. PANEL 3: Joey looks to Nathan. Nathan puts a finger to his chin. JOEY: What do you think she's here for? NATHAN: No clue. Can't imagine they'd be getting up to anything.
PANEL 1: An older woman stands at the door. She's a large woman with pale skin and curly greying red hair that covers her right eye. She's wearing rather old fashioned clothing. A dress with frilly sleeves and a hat with a blue flower in it's rim. She's holding her hands together and looks rather concerned. PANEL 2: Nathan seems surprised to see her. NATHAN: Miss Fortune? LIZZIE: Mr.Vargas, I really hope you don't mind me showing up at this hour. It's- It's an emergency. PANEL 3: Nathan looks uncertain, but motions behind himself, inviting her in. NATHAN: Uh...No, not at all. Let yourself in. PANEL 4: Lizzie walks ahead of Nathan. Joey stares at her in confusion. JOEY: ...Who's that? NATHAN: Lizzie Fortune, she was a client of ours back in the day.
PANEL 1: Joey rolls his eyes again. JOEY: Okay, okay, point taken-- ghosts are dangerous, no more cases. Nathan crosses his arms, looking uncertain. NATHAN: The dead aren't any more dangerous than the living, kid. PANEL 2: Nathan waves his hand dismissively. NATHAN: But that doesn't mean I'll go back to taking cases. Never doing that again, no matter wh-- PANEL 3: Nathan jumps as someone knocks on the front door. PANEL 4: Joey gets a mischevious smile on his face. JOEY: Sounds like a call to action to me. NATHAN: You be quiet. PANEL 6: Nathan goes to open the door.
PANEL 1: Nathan begins to remove his trenchcoat. NATHAN: But, just so I'm clear, I'm done with the whole paranormal investigation thing. PANEL 2: Nathan hangs up his coat and leans his lantern against the wall. NATHAN: Have been ever since I stopped doing ParaNathan. PANEL 3: Joey looks confused. JOEY: You used to do it all the time, though! Even when cameras weren't rolling! PANEL 4: Nathan looks mildly annoyed. NATHAN: Key words: Used to. Putting spirits to rest and chasing out angry poltergeists is fun and all, but it's...not for me anymore. PANEL 5: Nathan ruffles Joey's hair again. NATHAN: Especially now that I gotta look after little gremlins like you. PANEL 6: Joey swipes away Nathan's hand. JOEY: I'm not a gremlin! NATHAN: You were raised by me, you're a gremlin.
PANEL 1: Nathan and Joey stand across from each other, surrounded by purple void. Nathan keeps a hand to his chest, looking down at the ground. Joey stares at Nathan, eyes widening as he realizes something. A bright yellow glow surrounds his head. PANEL 2: Joey puts his hands together. JOEY: ...Were you looking for my dad again? PANEL 3: Nathan looks surprised. PANEL 4: Nathan says nothing, avoiding eye contact with Joey. PANEL 5: Joey, taking this as confirmation, looks sullen. JOEY: ...Oh. PANEL 6: Nathan cups Joey's face in one hand, making the boy look up at him. NATHAN: Hey, don't look so down, yeah? PANEL 7: Nathan forces a smile. NATHAN: I'll find him one day, Jojo. I promise.
PANEL 1: Joey's eyes sparkle. JOEY: ...Wait. PANEL 2: Joey stands up. JOEY: Where were you?Nathan looks over his shoulder. NATHAN: Huh--? PANEL 3: Nathan looks nervous. NATHAN: Oh, uh..nowhere-- PANEL 4: Joey excitedly runs up to Nathan, who looks away from him nervously. JOEY: You had your lantern when you came in! NATHAN: Well- PANEL 5: Joey looks incredibly excited, eyes sparkling. JOEY: Were you ghost hunting!? PANEL 6: Nathan anxiously rubs his hands together. NATHAN: No! Not...not really, I was just...looking for someone.
