PANEL 1: Joey hands the item to Nathan. It's a small stuffed bear, which is missing an eye and an arm. PANEL 2: Nathan looks saddened upon seeing this. PANEL 3: We see Nathan's hand as he hands the bear back to Joey. NATHANL Hold onto it. PANEL 4: Joey takes it. NATHAN: We'll give it back to him when we find him again. PANEL 5: Joey salutes and holds the bear close. JOEY: Aye aye Captain! PANEL 6: Joey puts the bear in the front pocket of his overalls. JOEY: I wonder what scared him so bad to make him run off like that, though?
PANEL 1: Nathan lets go of Joey's shoulders and puts a finger to his chin, deep in thought. NATHAN: Strange... PANEL 2: Joey looks down in disappointment. PANEL 3: He notices something at his feet, that bright glow returning to him. PANEL 4: He leans down to grab it. JOEY: Tío! PANEL 5: Nathan turns around to see what Joey's grabbing. JOEY: He dropped something!
PANEL 1: Nathan quickly turns to face Joey, they both look shocked. NATHAN: What!? JOEY: I- Esther! I saw him! I thought I wasn't able to-?! PANEL 2: Nathan excitedly puts his hands on Joey's shoulders. NATHAN: Joey- Your Spec! That could be it! Do you feel any different! Any words just suddenly click in your head? PANEL 3: Joey thinks hard, a bright glow shining behind his head. PANEL 4: Joey clenches his eyes closed as the glow dims. PANEL 5: The light fully disappears, Joey looks upset at this. PANEL 6: Joey looks down, disappointed. JOEY: ...No. N-Not at all. I-I don't think that was it.
PANEL 1: The boy turns around, revealing himself to be Esther. Strangely, there's a thin scar poking out from underneath his hair. PANEL 2: Nathan reels back. NATHAN: Esther!? PANEL 3: Esther puts a hand to Nathan's chest. PANEL 4: Esther shoves Nathan out of the way, running away as Nathan falls to the ground. Esther seems to have dropped something. PANEL 5: Nathan stands up. Joey stands behind him, looking shocked. PANEL 6: Joey still stares ahead, whispering when he speaks. JOEY: ...I saw him.
PANEL 1: Nathan and Joey sneak through the cavern, Nathan holding out his lantern in front of then. PANEL 2: Something taps behind Nathan. PANEL 3: He slowly turns around. PANEL 4: He spots a young boy kneeling on the ground. The boy is hearing a hoodie with the hood pulled up. PANEL 4: The boy picks something up. PANEL 5: Nathan slowly reaches for the kid.
PANEL 1: We see a portrait of Esther Fortune, depicting the young boy commanding a shadowy creature that rises over him. Esther is a young Caucasian boy with curly brown hair, a particularly large curl comes down to cover up one of his eyes. He's wearing a blue hoodie and black sweatpants. He has a blank expression. There's a plaque in front of his portrait with his name on it. PANEL 2: Nathan begins to read out the plaque. NATHAN: Esther Fortune. Spec: Shadows. The youngest of four, he heard their attacker crash through the door. Try as he might to hide away, not even the shadows could keep his fate at bay. PANEL 3: A hooded figure peers over the rocks, looking at Nathan and Joey. Joey looks sympathetic. Nathan scratches the back of his head. JOEY: ...Oh. NATHAN: None of this was here before. Why would Liz do all of this..? PANEL 4: Someone who's face we don't see stands up. They're wearing black pants that are torn at the knees and black gloves. PANEL 5: They begin to walk away, their figure glitching out as they do. PANEL 6: The sound of their steps catches Nathan's attention. PANEL 7: Nathan steps in front of Joey, holding his lantern at the ready. JOEY: What was that!? NATHAN: I'm not sure, but stay behind me.
PANEL 1: Nathan and Joey step out of the elevator. Strangely, they don't step into a room-- instead, they find themselves in a foggy, dark cave. Nathan looks shocked to see this. PANEL 1: Nathan walks ahead of Joey, looking up in confusion. NATHAN: ...This is different. JOEY: What do you mean? PANEL 3: Nathan turns to face Joey, gesturing with his hand. Joey notices something off screen. NATHAN: Well, for one, this room wasn't a goddamn cave last I saw it. PANEL 4: Joey points to something off screen, which Nathan turns to look at. JOEY: Oh, look!
ANEL 1: The elevator descends down into the manor. This extends through the entire left side of the page. Nathan and Joey's expressions and poses change in correspondence to the panels next to them. PANEL 2: Joey smiles. JOEY: Oh! I know about him! WH0AM1? did a mural for his birthday this year! PANEL 3: Nathan looks at Joey, confused. NATHAN: Uh..I'm sorry, who? JOEY: Yeah, exactly? NATHAN: No-- What the hell are you talking about? PANEL 4: Joey's eyes light up. Behind him, we see a spraypainted mural in pinks and blues. It depicts two figures. The left figure is blue, smiling, with cracks all over its face. The right figure is orange, looks afraid, and is cowering. They are leaning away from each other. JOEY: WH0AM1? They're a street artist who does these crazy murals around Elysium City! They make some for the Fortune Family's birthdays every year. PANEL 5: Nathan smiles at his nephew's enthusiasm. NATHAN: And why's that? JOEY: Sarah let them use a lot of the places they owned for their graffiti! PANEL 7: Joey puts his hands up like a cat. JOEY: She said they're one talented alley cat!
PANEL 1: Nathan approaches the bookshelf. PANEL 2: He reaches for a book. PANEL 3: Nathan pulls out a book from the shelf, but not entirely. The book is titled The Wonderful World of Elevators by Lucas Miller. PANEL 4: Something rises from the floor. PANEL 5: Joey reels back as an elevator rises from the floor. Joey: WHOA! PANEL 6: Nathan stands proudly in front of the elevator doors as they open. NATHAN: Each member of the family has their own floor to themselves. JOEY: That's so cool!!! PANEL 7: The two enter the elevator, the back wall is covered in notes from the family which are not readable. Joey stares up in awe while Nathan reaches for the buttons. NATHAN: First one is Esther's. PANEL 8: Nathan presses a blue button. NATHAN: Let's pay the little guy a visit
